The cost of a UK passport renewal is £77.50. This is for the standard service and you will get the 10 year 32 page passport.

It will usually take around 3 weeks to process a passport renewal application but if you need your passport quicker than that you can use the IPS 1 week Fast Track Service or the IPS 1 day Premium Service.

(both of which you will need an appointment)

The UK passport renewal fee is £112.50 for the One-week Fast Track service (by appointment only)

The UK passport renewal fee is £129.50 for the One-day Premium service

The IPS will accept UK passport renewal applications if:

1. you still have your last passport


2. it's not damaged


3. it was a standard UK adult ten-year passport or a UK five-year child's passport issued before you were 16


4. and you don't need to change your name or national status

You will not be able to renew your passport if:

• you were previously included as a child on someone else's passport

If this is the case you will need to apply for your first adult passport. Go to UK passport application.

You can renew your passport whenever you like. You don't have to wait until your old UK passport expires to apply to renew it. If there is any time left on your old passport, IPS will add it to your new passport, up to maximum of nine months.

Application form:

There is one standard form for all UK passport applications, you just need to fill out the relevant parts depending on what type of passport you're applying for.

There are 4 different ways in which you can obtain a passport application form to renew a UK Passport.

1. You can fill out the form online and the IPS will check it then print out the completed form and post it to you to sign and return with your supporting documents.


2. Or you can pick a form up from a Post Office branch that offers the Passport Check and Send service.


3. Or you can go online and request a British passport application form and the Identity and Passport Service will get one of to you in the post.


4. Last but not least you can call the IPS on the advice line 0300 222 0000 and they will also send you a form through the post.

What other documents do you need?

• You will need to send back your current or last passport.


• You will also need to send 2 recent identical photos.

Who needs to sign your application form?

When applying to renew your UK passport, normally the only signature needed on the application form is your own.

However, if you look completely different from the photo on your last passport, i.e. you've had a daisy tattooed on your forehead or you've shaved off all your hair and now have a big ring through your nose, then you will need to get your form countersigned in section 10.

Whoever you get to countersign your form, they should have known you for at least 2 years and they must:

• be over 18 years of age


• hold a current British or Irish passport


• be happy to write their passport number on your application form


• work in a recognised profession

Also they must not

• be related to you


• be involved with you personally


• live at home with you


• or work for the IPS

They will also need to certify one of your passport photos by writing on the back, the following statement:

I certify that this is a true likeness of - Mr, Mrs, Miss, Ms or other title followed by your full name

They must then sign and date this statement on the back of one of your photos.

How long will it take?

The Passport Office tries to process UK passport renewal applications in around three weeks from the time they arrive at their office. This does not include postage time, and you should allow for longer during busier times of the year.

You may get your passport sooner using the Post Office Check and Send service.

Passport applications sent via the Check and Send service are usually processed more quickly than standard postal applications. You can expect to receive your new passport in about two weeks.

However, if you are applying for your first adult passport, you should always allow up to six weeks. This is because in most cases you will need to attend a passport interview.

As well as the standard passport application fee, the Post Office will charge you 8.17 pounds for this service.

Every year the IPS rejects over 25,000 passport applications because the form was filled out incorrectly

The £8.17 you give the post office to check your form could be money well spent and it works out cheaper than using the Fast Track or Premium Service.
